Being a Caregiver is a Full-Time Job

Life throws us all a few challenges along the way. But those that live with an illness or disability face challenges everyday with most of those challenges being the simplest of everyday activities.

Diabetes continues to provide a daily dose of challenges for my husband and as his caregiver I know that attitude, family, and community is every bit as important as any medical advice.

Being a caregiver is a full-time job. It’s usually around the clock, seven days a week and you can forget about paid holidays or vacations. Although a non-paying job, it not only keeps me very busy but its rewards far out weigh any salary.

But living with an illness or disability, whether you’re the patient or the caregiver can be a life of questions and uncertainties.

Where can you turn to find the resources to answer some of your questions? With whom can you turn for comfort and support?

There are many different support groups and various organizations that are available to answer some of your questions or just lend an ear. I’ve found that relating with someone in similar circumstances can provide comfort and has managed to keep me out of a straight jacket.

We’ve listed some resources and links to support groups and organizations that may be helpful. If you know of a good resource not listed, please contact us with the information.
