Are you a stay-at-home mom too? I thought I would be missing all that work that I used to do when I was starting out my career and trying to make a name for myself. I chose to give it all up when I had my first baby. It surprised everyone who knew me, because they couldn’t imagine me being at home all day and taking care of my kid. I thought about the decision a hundred or so times too. Because I knew that I wanted to be a hands-on mom, I knew that something has got to give. I told myself, then, that my career has just got to wait.

A mommy’s day is not always as picture perfect as everyone else would imagine. Some days are good while others are not-so good. And yet at the end of each day, I still feel extremely blessed that another day has passed and I survived it. More importantly, I feel good about the thought that I was able to spend time with my kid. Although she has been crying the whole day and the thought of not being productive has dawned on me, I would always tell myself that that is what motherhood is for. It’s a challenge that strengthens you every single day.

Is there a secret to being a happy mom? All that you need are to keep these tips in mind and you’ll do just fine. You are after all a stay-at-home mom. You spend more time with your kids than anything else and that is what’s important:

  • Make a schedule and stick to it. A good routine or schedule can help you train your little ones. Try very hard to be as consistent to the schedule as possible. The small changes in the schedule can affect your kid a lot harder than you think. If it helps, you can plan out the family meal menu at the beginning of every week. This will help you keep up with everything else without worrying too much on what to cook for the family.
  • Early to bed and early to rise should do the trick. You’d be surprised at how much more you can do around the house when everybody else is fast asleep. The time that you have before the rest of the family wakes up should be a good reminder of what you consider as “me-time.” In that way, you won’t have to feel all too burdened of all the things that need to be done.
  • Write down everything. From the rules to the family goals to the grocery list, you have to write them all down. The writing will be your constant reminder that you have to work on something. Your to-do list will be your guide on what things need to be accomplished today. When you have ticked all those listed, you’d feel so good about today. With all positivity, you can look forward to another day.
  • Keep going until everything is done. You don’t have to do everything all at once, but you have to make sure that everything is done when they need to be. It can be impossible to complete all your household work while taking care of your baby, but it does help if you try. Stay on top of everything that you are doing and you’ll do just fine.

After all that has been said and done about motherhood and all the responsibilities that come with it. All that you can do is to keep on trying. You’ll be a happy mom not because you have accomplished all the household chores on time, but because you have spent another day with your baby.
